2016 Stampede Wrangler of the Year
Each year the Greeley Stampede’s volunteer group the Wranglers honor a volunteer that has demonstrated exceptional dedication and outstanding service to be named Top Hand of the Year. This year, the Top Hand of the Year was awarded to Sharon Carbaugh.
With more than 250 members, the Wranglers are in charge of putting on one of the region’s largest and most recognizable western celebration. The group oversees everything that is involved with the Stampede including security, concessions, and the parade to name a few.
Sharon has undeniably been an asset to the Wranglers over the years with more than one hundred volunteer hours at the Stampede last year alone. A volunteer with the Wranglers for 16 years, Sharon has done it all including redesigning the Greeley Stampede’s mascots, Bucky and Bertha, outfits.
The Wranglers recognized Sharon as Top Hand of the Year during the annual Christmas party after being selected by a panel of peers. The Top Hand of the Year award is given to a Wrangler after each group selects a Wrangler of the Year for their respected area. Sharon was nominated from the Parades committee. “It’s always a pleasure to see our hard working volunteers get the well-deserved recognition from their peers,” said John DeWitt, Wranglers General Chairman, “Sharon has been a longtime volunteer for the Stampede and we appreciate everything that she does!”
Sharon will be recognized during a rodeo at the 2017 Greeley Stampede. Along with her Top Hand of the Year award, Sharon will receive a custom made hat by Greeley Hat Works.
